In just a few days, DāO will be descending on Houston, TX for a weekend of back to back events starting with our signature C.B.D event that is a mix of cultural, wellness and philanthropic elements created to incite meaningful conversations and give back to communities of color.

Since the legalization of cannabidiol (CBD oil) in Houston this year, we've been eager to expand our reach in this growing cannabis community and connect with like-minded entrepreneurs breaking down barriers in this nascent industry. The free event, C.B.D — acronym for a Collection of Consciousness and Celebration of Beauty that Defies All Odds — includes various ways to implement CBD oil into one’s lifestyle. And in close partnership with The Gibson Lupus Autoimmune Resource Center, this event celebrates diversity in beauty while showcasing alternative methods of healing, highlighting local startups, and building close ties within the Greater Houston community.

“The purpose of this event is to bring this controversial knowledge to the broader public,” Lupus survivor and advocate Zuriel Gibson states. “Because Lupus is incurable, this event provides more informed decisions about treatment and care when faced with tough health challenges.”

Gibson recently celebrated her 41st birthday after being told she would die at the age of 24. From experience, Gibson learned research dollars were poured into studying Lupus on how to treat the symptoms instead of curing the disease. Given various dosages of drugs during her treatment, the emphasis was never aimed at her whole health, and instead, left her confused without the proper care needed to live a healthy life.

“For this reason, we are excited to partner with Gibson Lupus ARC to educate people with Lupus and other autoimmune diseases about alternative methods that can help on the path to seeking a cure,” Erin Patten shares. “Together, we’re bringing this energy of creativity, consciousness, and hustle to Third Ward; a community rich in all three.”

For many of you who may be unfamiliar with cannabidiol (CBD oil), unlike the cannabinoid THC (most prevalent with medical marijuana), CBD comes with no high and is scientifically proven to combat inflammation. CBD is used in treating a host of ailments such as multiple sclerosis, Crohn’s Disease, and Lupus because, according to a growing body of medical research, it activates our internal endocannabinoid system (ECS).

The ECS is made up of cannabinoid receptors that are embedded throughout the entire human body in immune cells, organs, connective tissue, and glands. These receptors send signals to nearly every system and cellular structure in our bodies to promote homeostasis. Basically the plant compound interfaces with your body to regulate functions and provide balance and healing.

Unfortunately, there’s a lack of transparency and regulation that currently exists in the marketplace. And DāO is at the forefront of driving more conversations and building awareness around the plant so that you not only feel safe when using Hemp or CBD products, but are also educated throughout the process. It is a fact that not all brands are reputable. However, we’ve taken extra care in partnering with suppliers who’s sourcing and extraction methods are top of the line. And the CBD companies participating also abide by these high standards.

As CBD usage is cumulative, it is best to adopt a protocol accompanied with a clean diet and be on the lookout for these positive health benefits:

  • Reshaping of your body’s structure – this often shows up as weight loss, more energy, radiant looking skin (glow from within) and other physical effects.
  • Sense of Stability – this often shows up as more agility and movement, and feeling stronger with more endurance. Less drama, more clarity.
  • Health Repair – the ability to bounce back with better recovery after illness, allergies, toxin exposures, injuries, or chronic conditions.
  • Mood Elevation – a greater sense of happiness and well-being with fewer “ups and downs.”
  • Ongoing Sense of Calm, Mindfulness and Happiness – usually after six months of cumulative benefit.
  • Resistance – If you stay with the program, you may notice some minor temporary setbacks. Your body is adjusting because your conditions are being treated with proper nutrition, sometimes for the first time ever. If you’ve never before optimized your diet before, you will need some time to adjust -- but, trust us, it will be well worth it.
